Public Health Expert: Ebola 'Poor Man's Atomic Bomb' for Terrorists

A prominent physician said Ebola is the “poor man’s atomic bomb” for terrorists, and America should not underestimate the bioterrorism threat.

Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125, Dr. Jane Orient, the executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, said “diseases like Ebola do not discriminate” and governments, “for decades,” have been “trying to weaponize things like that to use for biological warfare and terrorism.” 

“It’s not just science fiction,” she told host and Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon

She said the country should be concerned about illegal immigrants who could unknowingly bring the disease over and terrorists who would do so purposefully.

“One, can someone inadvertently cross the border and infect people?” she asked. “Or can it cross the border deliberately?”

She added that the Soviets weaponized various viruses and “we know there are people in the world who think that biological warfare is a very good idea” because the “poor man’s atomic bomb is biological warfare.”

Orient is not alone in fearing potential bioterrorism. Retired brain surgeon Dr. Ben Carson has said that terror groups can use Ebola as a bioterrorism weapon should they ever obtain the deadly pathogen.
