No One Is Buying Wendy Davis' Memoir

Despite a ton of free elite media attention, the new Wendy Davis memoir, “Forgetting to Be Afraid,” is flopping just as hard as the Democrat abortion extremist’s bid to be the next governor of Texas. According to Slate, since its release more than 6 weeks ago, “Forgetting to Be Afraid” has sold fewer than 6,000 copies.

For comparison, Slate points out that Elizabeth Warren’s memoir sold 70,000 copies over a comparable time period, and David Limbaugh’s “Jesus On Trail,” which published the same day as the Davis memoir, has sold 65,000 copies:

Since filibustering a new round of abortion regulations in the Texas senate last summer, the Democrats’ long-shot Texas gubernatorial candidate has become a near household name and a hero for pro-choice activists. She appeared on the Daily Show Monday night–which probably will give her book sales a little bump–starred in fawning Vogue and New York Times Magazine profiles, and has become an MSNBC favorite.

Her book’s anemic sales aren’t due to any dearth of coverage. Just about every major media outlet–including the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, Huffington Post, and many others–covered the book’s revelation that Davis has had two abortions, both for medical reasons. But that buzz hasn’t translated into sales. The book’s publisher, Penguin imprint Blue Rider Press, didn’t respond to an email about the lackluster numbers.

This isn’t just a failure for Wendy Davis, it is also a failure of the mainstream media. The media not being able to put Davis over the top in Texas is one thing, failing to boost her book sales nationwide is something else.

It’s now obvious that the appeal of Wendy Davis is limited only to a very small, cloistered bubble of media insiders. Outside of that bubble, even in left-wing enclaves like Manhattan and San Francisco, Davis isn’t selling. If just 1% of the New York City population purchased her memoir, Davis would’ve sold more than ten-times the books she has.

According to the Real Clear Politics poll of polls, with one week to go before election day, Davis is more than 14 points behind her Republican opponent Greg Abbott.
