A Long Island man has reportedly been deemed responsible for beheading a woman and then taking his own life when he stepped in front of an incoming LIRR train, local reports stated.
Local news station PIX11 said that police believed the incident was not terrorism related, but instead a domestic matter.
The man, reportedly in his 30s, beheaded a woman in her 60s who investigators believe may be his mother. Her severed head and body were found outside of her apartment in Farmingdale, Long Island, located approximately 30 miles from Manhattan.
Police said the man was shortly thereafter found deceased on LIRR train tracks, and officials have initially deemed the incident a murder-suicide.
The names of the victims have not yet been released to the public.
The New York City MTA’s LIRR division posted on Twitter that service to Ronkonkoma Branch has been “suspended due to unauthorized persons on tracks struck by train.”
