Not A Peep Out of Gabby Giffords, Mark Kelly Since Midterms

There has not been a peep out of gun control proponents Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly since the midterm elections.

On November 5, Everytown for Gun Safety released a post-election video somehow claiming the elections that gave Republicans historic gains also proved gun control is a “winner.” And on November 11, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America tried to spin their gun control losses as proof that they’re a “political force.” But Giffords and Kelly are nowhere to be seen, nowhere to be heard.

On November 9, Breitbart News reported that the midterm elections closed the door on gun control at the federal level—even the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence admitted to this. Heck, the NRA won over 90 percent of 279 Congressional races in which they endorsed candidates.

On the other hand, The Hill reports that Giffords and Kelly’s gun control group “spent million of dollars endorsing [just] 16 candidates,” and they lost in more than 50 percent of those races.

To be fair, Arizona District 2 is still very tight and still being counted. District 2 is Giffords’ old seat and one in which she pulled out all the stops to try to secure a win for gun control Representative Ron Barber (D-AZ-2) over pro-Second Amendment candidate Martha McSally (R).

But as of now, the last thing the public heard from Giffords and Kelly was that she undertook a nine-state gun control tour in the weeks before the midterms, and candidates running for statewide or federal office were too nervous to appear with her. Breitbart News reported that the tour was so unpopular, Giffords resorted to holding meetings in high school classrooms and public libraries while traveling.

Before the elections Giffords or Kelly—or both—were on television, writing columns, or otherwise pushing gun control at every turn in the road. Where are they now?
