Thursday on Bloomberg’s “With All Due Respect,” Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton broke the law by how she handled her emails during her tenure as secretary of state, and he would be open to subpoenaing her server.
Boehner said, “She violated the law. The idea that she was going to use her own server and do official business on it goes against every transparency issue that the president likes to tout.”
When questioned on how she broke the law, the speaker continued, “She has to use an official account to do all of this… She had to sign a sheet when she got there that she was going to preserve all these records. At some point, they can’t ignore the fact that there are a lot of public documents on the server that the American people have a right to see. We believe that it is time for Mrs. Clinton to turn that server and all those documents over to the inspector general at the State Department. Let them sort out what is official.”
On the issue of being open to subpoenaing her server, Boehner said, “I have not made any decisions, but all actions are on the table. If we need to do that, we may have to.”
When asked again, he added, “If we need to do this—it is important for the American people to know the truth about what happened in Benghazi. It is important to know what was going on at the State Department before, during, and after the events that occurred in Libya.”
Boehner concluded “I know the Clintons well. I have known them and they are good public servants, but there are a lot of questions that are being raised. At some point, they will have to answer the questions.”
