On May 13 officers in Midtown Manhattan shot the hammer-wielding suspect alleged to be behind four attacks on innocents over the past few days.
PIX 11 reports that on suspect allegedly tried to attack a female officer about 10:05 a.m. and was shot by her partner.
A hammer was found on the scene.
According to ABC 7, police had been searching for the man following attacks on two civilians Monday afternoon and two more Monday night. They spotted him Wednesday morning “in the vicinity of 37th Street and Eighth Avenue,” approached him for questioning, and that is when he allegedly tried to strike the female officer with a hammer.
The suspect was shot upon lunging at the officer. The New York Daily News reports the female officer tried to get away as the man swung the hammer, that she was “trying to back up. She went down. [And] the male officer shot [the attacker].”
The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The Monday night victims of a hammer attack were a 28-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman. Neither knew the knew the suspect, and neither sustained life-threatening injuries.
A 20-year-old man claimed he was attacked with a hammer on Monday about 1:45 p.m. and “a 34-year-old woman said she was punched in the head by the man on East 26th Street and Madison Avenue.”
