Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson has not reached out to the family of the woman allegedly murdered by a multiple-deportee, multiple-felon illegal immigrant and does not know if anyone else in the administration has.

“I’m sorry I do not know the answer to that question,” Johnson responded when asked by Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) during a House Judiciary Committee hearing if the administration had reached out to Kathryn Steinle’s family.

Chabot encouraged the administration to reach out to the Steinle family.

“I would just note that the administration has reached out on a whole range of homicide cases, criminal cases around the country and I’m not being critical of them having done. I think that certainly there are times when the administration should to that. But there are also times — perhaps they need to do that,” he said, requesting that Johnson check into whether the administration has contacted the Steinle family.

Johnson responded again that he did not know if anyone in the administration had reached out but noted that he personally writes letters to sheriffs and police chiefs who have officers die in the line of duty.

“My understanding is that they have not,” Chabot said.

Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an Illegal immigrant with a long rap sheet and multiple deportations, was released by the sanctuary city of San Francisco less than three months before he shot Steinle at a San Francisco pier.
