Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush appeared perturbed by the recent use of foul language by Donald Trump, telling the group gathered at the Faith and Family forum in South Carolina that he would restore decency to the Oval Office.
“Is anybody here worried about the frontrunning candidate shouting out obscenities in front of children? This is like — What is going on?” he asked perplexedly.
Bush compared Trump to Obama insofar as he talked down other people to make himself look better.
“He has used that talent to push people down to make himself look better,” Bush said, praising Obama’s speaking gifts. “Frankly we have a front running candidate that does the exact same thing, pushes people down to make himself look big and strong.”
Bush said he would avoid doing the same thing if elected president.
“I will not disparage people with disabilities, I will not disparage women, I won’t disparage Hispanics, that’s not America,” he said.
Bush vowed to restore the “commonality of purpose” in America and unite the country.
“I guess I’ve had a little front row seat watching history unfold just given the uniqueness of my family,” he said, referring to his father, former George H.W. Bush, who was a decent man, and his brother, former President George W. Bush, who “always wore a suit into the Oval Office.”
Jeb Bush compared the presidency to that of a “king” — insofar as their public actions reflected the values of America.
“The public persona of the presidency has power, the bully pulpit matters,” he said.
