President Donald Trump noted that fans of the NFL booed players who chose to protest during the National Anthem, pointing out that it was only a small percentage of the total NFL roster.

“Many people booed the players who kneeled yesterday (which was a small percentage of total),” he wrote on Twitter. “These are fans who demand respect for our Flag!”

Over 200 NFL players protested Trump’s condemnation of protests during the National Anthem, as some team owners joined their team and linked arms.

The NFL has an estimated 1,696 players on active rosters. (There are 32 NFL teams with 53 roster spots).

“The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race,” Trump added. “It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this!”
