Los Angeles Times Columnist Whines: ‘Stop Using Bill Clinton to Hammer on Liberals’

Los Angeles Times columnist Robin Abcarian wants conservatives to “stop using Bill Clinton to hammer on liberals,” arguing that “Sexual harassment is a man problem, not a partisan one.”

Her latest column is a “pep talk” for liberals who are upset at being called hypocrites for believing women who accuse Republicans of sexual misconduct but not those who accuse Democrats.

“You’re not hypocrites. You’re being played by the right. Again,” she claims.

She argues that Clinton’s impeachment was not really about the fact that he had committed perjury, but was a “faux morality play.” She adds that President Trump is every bit as bad as Clinton, if not worse.

As for Hillary Clinton, Abcarian says, she is a “victim” who is under no particular burden to apologize for her role in attacking her husband’s accusers. “Maybe one day she will step forward with an apology … And maybe she won’t.

“She can do whatever she wants because what happens between two married people, even when they are both public figures, is none of our business,” Abcarian argues, even though Hillary Clinton led the team charged with handling “bimbo eruptions,” publicly discrediting women who came forward.

Abcarian allows that both Democrats and Republicans have treated women badly: she calls it a “man problem,” not a question of ideology.

But she does not want to answer why those who claim to be champions for women’s rights should be called to account for their hypocrisy in defending those they knew to be violating those rights.

The real reason Abcarian does not want to hear arguments about Bill Clinton — even as fellow liberals are finally coming out to criticize his behavior — is that they are so effective.

To quote Rule #4 of “community organizer” Saul Alinsky, who inspired both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton: “Make opponents live up to their own book of rules.”

That applies to liberals as well as conservatives. And if Democrats, too, feel some qualms — finally, and belatedly — about their hypocrisy in supporting the Clintons: good.
