DALLAS, Texas — Nikki Haley, former United States ambassador to the United Nations, spoke at Turning Point USA’s Young Women’s Leadership Summit on Friday night, telling student attendees that President Donald Trump was right to have “pushed these countries to a place that’s uncomfortable.” She added that Mexico’s reaching a deal with the United States “that quick” is a sign “that so many other things can be fixed, too.”

Nikki Haley offered her remarks on Friday night at a TPUSA banquet in Dallas, Texas, where she talked with the organization’s founder, Charlie Kirk, about President Trump’s recent deal with Mexico, her experiences working with the president, and her thoughts on the Democrats’ call for “impeachment,” among other topics.

“The president has pushed these countries to a place that’s uncomfortable, but it was time,” said Haley at the TPUSA banquet. “We needed to do this because it was time to let them know that we weren’t going to sit back anymore. We weren’t going to let them have their way anymore”:

“I think every president gets to decide how they want their foreign policy to be,” added Haley. “President Obama — he just didn’t want to rock the boat; he wanted all countries to like us, and, because of that, we had to deal with a lot of issues that had not been dealt with.”

“And, all of the sudden, when we get out of the Paris Climate Agreement, the Europeans are mad,” said the former U.N. Ambassador, “Well, we didn’t speak up when should’ve spoken up, when they were signing a bad deal to start with. So we had to fix that.”

Haley also noted the Iran Nuclear Deal as one of the issues left over from the Obama administration that the Trump administration needed to fix.

“[Iran] is supporting terrorism in Afghanistan, in Iraq, in Syria, in Lebanon, in Yemen,” said Haley, “Pulling that money back was acknowledging a truth, that [the U.S.] had just paid them to support terrorism.”

“The idea that [President Trump] said, ‘If you don’t go and fix this problem, and if you don’t start working with us, we’re going to put tariffs on you,’ and they came around that quick, it is such a sign that so many other things can be fixed, too. They cry wolf, but at the end of the day, they can get it done.”

Haley also offered her remarks on what it was like working with President Trump and shared what she personally thought of the president’s character.

“One thing you should know about working with the president,” said Haley. “Just to let you know what it was like: Everybody said, ‘How did you get out of the administration and not have any issues?’ And it honestly was that I just told the president the truth, and I think what people don’t understand is, he really does listen, and he was very respectful.”

“I was on the phone with him all the time. We were working together all the time,” added Haley. “He really does allow the people that work for him to do their job and do it well. He expects a lot of them.”

Haley said the left talks about impeachment to distract from all of the good that is happening in America.

“They want you to talk about impeachment,” said Haley. “They want you to talk about the Mueller investigation.”

“They want you to talk about all the things that have been disproven and aren’t there anymore,” Haley continued. “So you talk about what’s real. The impeachment’s not real. Unemployment? Real. The economy? Real.”

“And everybody feels it,” said Haley, “because at the end of the day, people vote with their quality of life and their wallets. If those things are good, then they want it to stay on the same path.”
