Shaun White Surprises Teen As Her Prom Date After Twitter Invite

A Flourtown, Pennsylvania teen hatched a scheme to use social media to ask Olympic snowboarder Shaun White to be her prom date. He actually showed up, to her surprise, on the big night.

The teen, Mount Saint Joseph Academy senior Carly Monzo, brilliantly planned her invitation to White by using a GoPro camera to record her attempt to woo him to the prom. It was no fluke Monzo used the camera as GoPro sponsors the snowboarder.

Monzo enlisted the aid of many of her friends, a few teachers, and the administration of her school to produce her video.

The young woman then posted her video to Vimeo.com and crossed her fingers.

The teen and her friends and schoolmates launched a social media campaign to Tweet and Facebook about the video they made in hopes of hearing from the celebrity snowboarder. But no word ever came back to the girl and her friends.

But as it turned out, Shaun White wasn’t ignoring her at all. In conjunction with the administration of the school, White arranged a surprise appearance at the dance and on the big night revealed himself to the shocked girl right on stage.

“School officials called a clueless Monzo onto the stage during the prom,” Bleacherreport.com noted. “When the curtains dropped, White appeared with his band, Bad Things.”

After the night was over White tweeted out some photos as he put on his tuxedo for the dance as well as photos of the couple’s big night.

Most remember their big prom night as a special time in their lives. But, thanks to Shaun White, this Pennsylvania teen has more reason to remember hers than most.
