An unidentified NHL player has tested positive for the new coronavirus.
The Ottawa Senators announced late Tuesday night one of their players has tested positive for COVID-19, has mild symptoms and is in isolation.
Ottawa is notifying those who came in contact with the player and have told other members of the team to monitor their health and seek advice from the medical staff.
The Senators player is the first NHL player to have been known to contract the virus.
“The Ottawa Senators are in the process of notifying anyone who has had known close contact with the athlete and are working with our team doctors and public health officials,” the team said in a statement.
“As a result of this positive case, all members of the Ottawa Senators are requested to remain isolated, to monitor their health and seek advice from our team medical staff.”The last time the Senators played was March 11th at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Perhaps not coincidentally, the Brooklyn Nets, who had four players test positive for coronavirus, also played their last game at Staples Center.
The Athletic reports that several other Senators players are also feeling ill and plan to be tested for coronavirus.
