Mass Resignations, Protests in Tunisia Against Saied Dictatorship

One-hundred-thirteen senior officials from Tunisia’s opposition Ennahda party resigned on Saturday, protesting President Kais Saied’s increasingly dictatorial rule and their own party leadership’s poor response to it. Thousands of demonstrators rallied in the capital of Tunis on Sunday to demand Saied’s resignation.

Chinese State Media: World Rejects ‘American Values’ Like Freedom and Democracy

China’s state-run Global Times cited a few polls and Western op-ed pieces on Sunday to argue the world has rejected “American values” like freedom and democracy. In the Chinese Communist paper’s view, the U.S. response to China’s coronavirus pandemic, unrest in the streets, and “division and confrontation between political parties” prove the U.S. system doesn’t work and America’s “global leadership is declining.”

Chinese Media Brag of ‘Roaring’ Economy from Selling Faulty Medical Equipment

Chinese state media bubbled with articles over the weekend praising Chinese companies for quickly recovering from the coronavirus lockdown, churning out medical equipment for customers around the world and raking in huge profits. Meanwhile, the rest of the world was noticing that a great deal of those Chinese masks and test kits are dangerously defective.

Egyptian Referendum to Extend Sisi’s Term Passes with 88% Support

The referendum to approve constitutional amendments that extended Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s term, granted permission for him to run for another six years in 2024, and increased the powers of his office has passed with over 88% of votes cast in favor, according to the Egyptian election commission.
