DHS Extends Ban on Legal Nonessential Land Border Crossings

The Department of Homeland Security announced on Friday an extension of the non-essential travel ban at land border ports along the U.S./Mexico and U.S./Canada borders. The ban, now in place for over 18 months, prohibits nonimmigrant visa holders from entering the United States for recreational travel, shopping, or visiting relatives.

Border Patrol officials in the Texas Rio Grande Valley announced a new sector record for the apprehension of migrants in a 24-hour period. The apprehensions, which were recorded on Thursday, totaled nearly 4,000 throughout the day. Ironically, the record-breaking apprehensions occurred on the very day Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas visited the area to get a firsthand look at conditions on the ground in South Texas.

DHS Begins Expedited Removal of Some Migrant Families Apprehended at Border

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) began flights to remove some migrant families designated for expedited removal. The order for expedited removal applies to some migrant families who illegally crossed the U.S. border from Mexico who cannot be removed under Title 42 coronavirus protection protocols.
