Science and technology magazine WIRED will debut its first-ever “sex issue” in March, the company announced Tuesday.

The issue’s centerpiece will be “Sex in the Digital Age,” or “40 pages on how we do it, in a time of constantly evolving technology,” according to a company release.

“Getting it on is different today. How we find partners, how we learn what excited us, how we flirt, how we make dates, how we grow closer, how we turn each other on – all of it has changed,” WIRED senior editor Caitlin Roper said in a statement announcing the issue.

“Whether you’re using a vibrator alone in your room, swiping right and meeting up, or Skyping with a distant lover, technology is there for you. It will not disapprove or scold. It will only enable. Our ‘cold’ technologies have turned up the heat.”

“And so this issue of WIRED brings you stories about love and sex in the digital age. This is how we do it today. Get ready to plug in, turn on, and get off,” Roper added.

The magazine’s spotlight on sex in the 21st century comes as interest in virtual reality pornography and other futuristic sexual endeavors is on the upswing. At last month’s Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, one of the most popular exhibits was Utherverse Inc. virtual reality porn portal Red Light Center, which utilizes Oculus Rift headsets to immerse the user in a 360-degree adult environment.

Still, while interest in the technology and its potential applications is high, most sex toy industry insiders believe the technology is not yet as available and affordable as would be necessary for widespread adoption.

WIRED‘s “sex issue” hits newsstands next month, but interested readers can find Peter Rubin’s “Virtual Reality Porn is Coming, and Your Fantasies May Never Be the Same” here.
