ESPN to Give ‘Courage’ Award to Olympian Formerly Known As Bruce Jenner

Former Olympic gold medalist Jenner has been announced as the 2015 Arthur Ashe Courage Award winner and is set to receive the award at the 2015 ESPY’s for the journey taken to change from a man to a woman. Jenner took the gold medal in the decathlon from the 1976 Summer Olympics.

Jenner joins a list that includes former minor league baseball player Kevin Tillman and his fallen brother and fellow U.S. Army member and former NFL safety Pat Tillman, boxing legend Muhammad Ali, former UNC men’s basketball coach Dean Smith, former pro tennis player and lesbian Billie Jean King, former South African president and communist Nelson Mandela and 2014 winner and Canadian Football League’s Michael Sam, who came out as being gay shortly before the 2014 NFL Draft.
