CNN Poll: Majority of Americans Disapprove of Obama Gun Control Push

In an April 8 CNN Poll, 52% of Americans disapproved of President Obama’s gun control push. When CNN broke the numbers down according to the demographics of those polled, Americans’ disapproval of the president’s position was even more pronounced.

For example, among men aged 35 and older, 52% represents the lowest amount of disapproval gun control faces. For men 65 and up, 57% of respondents disapproved of Obama’s gun control push in a poll that had a margin of error of +/- 5.5.

When CNN asked the question and categorized answers based on income, no socioeconomic group showed less than 50% disapproval for what Obama is trying to do to gun rights.

When broken down by political affiliation, Democrats, liberals, and moderates showed more approval than disapproval, while disapproval among conservatives, independents, and Republicans was as high as 86%.

Even when respondents’ answers were broken down according to where they lived in America, only those in the Northeast and in urban areas reported slightly higher approval than disapproval of the president’s policy. Meanwhile, Americans in the Mid-West, the South, the West, and suburban and rural settings hammered Obama for his opposition to gun rights.
