At Least 9 of 12 Gosnell Jurors 'Pro-Choice'

According to Philadelphia local affiliate NBC 10, at least nine of the twelve jurors who found abortionist Kermit Gosnell guilty of first-degree murder for killing babies born alive at his clinic identified themselves as “pro-choice.”

“To give you some background on the jurors, of the seven women and five men who are on the jury, at least nine told the court that they are pro-choice,” said Jacqueline London of NBC’s Philadelphia affiliate. “Two say that they are neither pro-choice nor pro-life.”

The jury found Gosnell guilty of three of four counts of first-degree murder in the killings of babies born alive during abortion procedures. He was also found guilty of the involuntary manslaughter of abortion patient Karnamaya Mongar along with one count of infanticide.

According to reporter JD Mullane, who covered the entire trial, Gosnell’s defense attorney, Jack McMahon, requested that each juror be polled on whether he or she agreed with the verdict. Each responded in a strong voice, “Agree.”

A sentencing hearing is scheduled on May 21st. Gosnell could potentially receive the death penalty for each of the three first-degree murder charges.

According to Sean O’Sullivan of The News Journal, Gosnell, 72, showed no emotion as the dozens of guilty counts were read in open court.

McMahon said his client was “obviously disappointed and upset” with the outcome. He added that he had put forward an “aggressive” defense, and had no regrets about not calling any witnesses on Gosnell’s behalf at the trial.
