Former WH Adviser Plouffe Attacks Darrell Issa on Twitter

IRS Scandal

Former White House senior adviser David Plouffe decided to heat up the war between Rep. Darrell Issa and the White House on Sunday by attacking Issa on Twitter.

After Issa appeared on CNN’s State of the Union and called White House Press Secretary Jay Carney a “paid liar,” Plouffe tweeted about Issa: “Strong words from Mr Grand Theft Auto and suspected arsonist/insurance swindler. And loose ethically today.”

Plouffe’s attack was based on two false claims against Issa from his past. Issa was accused, along with his brother, of stealing a car in the 1970s, but the judge ultimately threw out the case. He was also accused by a former business partner of setting a fire at their factory in order to collect insurance money. No charges were ever filed, and the partner admitted to taking the products that survived the fire and using them to set up a competing business.

Frederick Hill, Issa’s spokesman, responded to Plouffe’s defamatory attack, saying, “Looks like the chairman hit a nerve today. Hopefully President [Barack] Obama follows Plouffe on Twitter and may finally see some information from a senior adviser about what’s going on at the IRS.”
