Almost exactly four years ago, ACORN, the notorious, leftist community organizers, imploded on itself after being caught in a series of lies related to the video-sting of journalists James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles. Cut off from federal funding and largely abandoned by its Democrat allies, the organization filed for bankruptcy and disbanded. ACORN has resurfaced in Bill de Blasio’s campaign for NYC mayor.
The New York Post reports that, according to a Democrat insider, ACORN had long sought to put de Blasio into the mayor’s office. “Without exaggeration, ACORN’s long-range plan since 2001 was to elect de Blasio mayor,” the insider said. “De Blasio was a big ACORN project.”
At de Blasio primary election night victory party, Bertha Lewis, the one-time head of ACORN took to the stage, “We’re baaaack. The right wing will have to deal with it,” she chuckled.
Lewis, whose new organization is New York Communities for Change, is described as a “key cog” in the de Blasio campaign. De Blasio and Lewis’ reborn ACORN are aligned on almost every major issue, including restricting the growth of charter schools. De Blasio even changed his position on a controversial real estate development project at the urging of the then-ACORN.
De Blasio is the heavy favorite to win the mayor’s race against Republican Joe Lhota. With his victory, ACORN, whatever name it goes by, will be back in the halls of power.
