Muslims Claim 'Jabba's Palace' Toy Hateful, Lego Pulls from Production

Jabba the Hut’s palace in Return of the Jedi proved one of the franchise’s most indelible movie sets, full of frightening creatures, a blue elephant-like musician and, of course, Han Solo frozen in carbonite.

Some Muslims claim a toy based on Jabba’s lair also is an insult to their faith.

The Lego toy dubbed “Jabba’s Palace” “depicts Muslims as terrorists,” according to several Muslim groups, citing the toy’s “mosque-like lair,” hookah, guns and a handcuffed Chewbacca.

“This sort of thing does not belong in a child’s bedroom,” Melissa Gunes, spokeswoman for Austria’s Turkish Cultural Association, told The Independent. “The game is pedagogical dynamite. It depicts Muslims as terrorists.”

Lego claims it planned to stop production on “Jabba’s Palace” all along, and its decision has nothing to do with the outrage.
