According to Chuck Todd, gun control advocates are targeting Senators who opposed the Manchin-Toomey “compromise” in much the same way that conservatives focused on politicians who supported Obamacare.
The goal of gun control proponents is to stir up emotion and hysteria in order to flip just enough Senate votes to allow Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to bring the tabled gun control legislation back for a successful vote.
To this end, people who can’t even vote for Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)–because they don’t live in her state–are coming to her town halls and wreaking emotional havoc to try to get her to change her vote.
Chuck Todd described the methodology behind this on Morning Joe on May 1, when he referred to the “outside groups” attending town halls as “grass tops” rather than local, grassroots. Said Todd: “It was grass tops and outside groups…that did help start the fire on [Obamacare] for conservatives. So don’t underestimate this stuff.”
Time for conservatives to show up in droves at town hall meetings, to let Senator Ayotte know that the “bused-in emotion” is not representative of what the people in New Hampshire think or support.
