Bombing in Hyderabad Kills 12
Reports from India state that 12 people have been killed and many injured when two bombs went off in Hyderabad, India. Police have already said that the bombings constitute a “terrorist attack.” The devices were coordinated to blow up within ten minutes of each other, at about 7 PM, and were attached to bicycles. The first bomb detonated near a movie theater; the second detonated outside a bus station.
It is unclear who is responsible for the bombings; the city is a mix of Hindus and Muslims. The Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, stated, “This is a dastardly attack, the guilty will not go unpunished. I appeal to the public to remain calm and maintain peace.”
Local reporters suggest that the bombings may be retaliation for the hanging of Mohammed Afzal Guru, one of the terrorists involved in the 2001 storming of the Indian parliament ending with the murder of 9 people and the death of five of the attackers.
