The president of the Irish National Trust has refused to debate a leading sceptic of man-made global warming. Professor John Sweeney of ‘An Tasice, the Irish National Trust’, had been due to debate Dr Benny Peiser of the Global Warming Policy Foundation on the RTE show ‘Prime Time’, but pulled out when he learnt who his opponent was.
An Taisce issued a statement saying: “We looked forward to contributing to the debate on how we should deal with the serious problems that ‘Climate Change’ will present to our children and grandchildren.
“However, we have since learnt that Prime Time will be flying a ‘Climate Denier’ in from the UK for the night.
“We suppose that they have the idea that a ‘Punch and Judy’ show between opposing members of the panel will make ‘Good Television’, one which will certainly generate much heat but very little light.
“John Sweeney has decided not to participate and An Taisce has decided to boycott this Prime Time show.”
An Taisce added that it wanted the RTE Director General and the programme’s producers to explain whether they “understand” Climate Science, and said: “The scientific debate on the validity of climate change has ended with the realisation that for the sake of future generations global warming must be restricted to 2°C.”
Speaking to Breitbart London, Benny Peiser said: “I regret that John Sweeney and the Irish National Trust are afraid of debating climate change.
“However, I am but not surprised that green campaigners are reluctant to face the facts:
“In Britain and across Europe the green agenda is becoming increasingly unpopular. Many families, households and businesses are growing hostile towards unilateral climate policies that are inflating energy bills and heating costs.
“The public has a right to know why governments are backtracking on climate change, unable to agree an international treaty.”
