Following the recent demise of surveillance programs and the so-called “public outcry over the contentious stop, question and frisk policy,” the New York Police Department (NYPD) is actively recruiting Muslim officers to “regain trust.”
Speaking on June 8, NYPD Commissioner William Bratton his police force “will not do anything to jeopardize that trust” one it is regained.
According to Bay News 9, the NYPD currently has “about 800 Muslim uniformed police officers out of about 35,000.” Only 20 Muslims “are higher ranked officials” after Muslims flew jumbo jets into the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, and after a black Muslim named Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley executed two NYPD officers in a cop-hating rampage.
But the push is on.
The NYPD Community Affairs Immigration Outreach Unit’s Lt. Adeel Rana said, “It’s changing every day: we are getting more and more recruits. And as they see people of their own religion in uniform, their eyes brighten.”
As part of the recruiting efforts, a video was played “during the department’s annual pre-Ramadan conference [showing] dozens of uniformed officers who are Muslim saying, ‘We are your NYPD.'”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) approves. CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said, “This is a way to break down the mistrust and create bridges in the community. Where an informant breaks down trust, a law enforcement officer builds it.”
It was just slightly less than fourteen years ago that Muslim hijackers brought down the World Trade Centers, flew a plane into the Pentagon, and were forced to crash a plane in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Yet recruiting Muslims is a priority, thanks to the standards set by anti-American jihadists.
