Parent Activists Unite to End U.S. Department of Education

Parent activists who have been fighting the Common Core state standards have joined together to form a national group whose message is “Stop Fed Ed.”

U.S. Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) has launched a new campaign to abolish the U.S. Department of Education. During a press conference in Des Moines, Iowa, the parents said their focus is to restore local control of education by eliminating the federal government’s role.

“We have come to the conclusion that it is time for us to stop spinning our wheels in our states, and not gaining the kind of achievements we’re looking for,” said Sheri Few. “We’ve decided it’s time to put an end to the U.S. Department of Education and end all federal mandates on education.”

“We have grown weary of the constant rebranded reforms coming down from the federal Department of Education and its allied bureaucrats at the state level,” said Karen Lamoreaux. “And now it’s time to attack the problem head on, and getting at its root.”

The parents say that the U.S. Department of Education has spent billions of dollars over the past half-century with little to show for it since academic achievement is at an all-time low.

The activists will ask presidential, senatorial, and congressional candidates to sign a pledge to abolish the federal Education Department.
