Kasich Gives Half-Hearted Defense of His ‘Trump as Hitler’ Ad

Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Republican presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) said his ad attacking his rival Donald Trump is not likening him to Hitler, as it has widely been criticized for, but instead just a POW who wants to make sure, “have an American president who’s gonna unite us and not divide us.”

Host Jake Tapper played a clip of and asked about a campaign ad that likened Donald Trump to Nazis and Kasich said, “That’s not what’s being done here. The gentleman you hear speaking is a former POW who feels very strongly about the Untied States being untied. This is a message about uniting people. When you attack Hispanics, when you characterize all Muslims in very negative way, when you insult women, we don’t think that is good. We think that in this point of time more than any other time, we need to have America united. And we need to have an American president who’s gonna unite us and not divide us. And it no more than that and any read into it as more than that is certainly not what was intended or what was meant.”
