Trump: ‘I Would Absolutely Hold’ People In US Illegally Who Serve In Military, That’s a ‘Special Situation’

During NBC’s Commander-in-Chief Forum on Wednesday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump stated that when it comes people who are in the US illegally who plan on serving in the US military, “I would absolutely hold those people.”

Trump was asked, “Do you believe that an undocumented person who serves — who wants to serve in the US armed forces deserves to stay in this country legally?

He answered, “I think that when you serve in the armed forces, that’s a very special situation, and I could see myself working that out, absolutely.”

Host Matt Lauer followed up, “So she’s saying, has already served in the armed forces, or wants to serve, plans to serve?”

After the vet asking the question clarified, “Plans to serve, plans to serve in the armed forces. As you know, under DACA, there are — we have people who are undocumented who are serving.”

Trump then said, “Military is a very special thing. if they plan on serving, if they get in, I would absolutely hold those people. Now we have to be very careful. We have to vet very carefully, everybody would agree with that, but the answer is, it would be a very special circumstance, yes.”
