In an unprecedented move, the ATF is joining with the New York Police Department to fight the crime wave that gun control has failed to halt.

According to CBS New York, “the NYPD, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and the Bureau for Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Exlosives (ATF)” are teaming up to fight the wave of gun crime that has engulfed the city.

ATF agent Charles Mulham said, “There’s going to be an increase in federal arrests – no doubt.”

Mulham added: “Of course, when the ATF gets involved with our resources and our tracing expertise, we’ll be able to figure out if [the] weapon is part of an interstate trafficking operation,” and if it is, “the punishment is more severe.”

Over the past weekend alone, “there were 13 shooting incidents—17 victims, and two homicides.” And that is not counting the Monday morning events at a “Brooklyn sports bar… where surveillance video showed a gunman opening fire just after closing and striking four people.”

According to “federal sources,” the concerted effort between NYPD and ATF “will allow agents to go after people with as little as one prior felony arrest, and hit them with charges that could carry up to 10 years to jail.”
