American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp tells Breitbart News Daily that the Republican voters should slug it out in the primary but pull together once the GOP nominee faces Hillary Clinton in November, urging conservatives to reach out to the new voters Donald Trump delivered to Republican ranks.

“Don’t tell everyone to just stop and be quiet. Go for it. Get it out. Get it out of your system. Be fair, but go for it. There’s days, weeks, months left in this campaign. Get it out. Leave it all on the Republican field,” Schlapp told Breitbart News executive chairman and host Stephen K. Bannon. “Because when you get done, if you don’t pull together, you are essentially telling your kids and grandkids that we’re going to have a decade more of the Obama torch, and there’s not a damn thing any of us will be able to do about it.”

The day you decide what will happen for the next decade is election day in the general election. So for those ‘never Trump’ people, they are really, really doing something that is damaging if they fulfill their pledge they’re making. And they ought to stop making the pledge. What they ought to be is for their person. They can criticize Trump all they want. But when we get done with this, they’ve gotta dust themselves off and they gotta pull that lever. Look at what I did when I voted for John McCain. I literally had two fingers over my nose and I did it. Why? I don’t want Barack Obama. I don’t want his policies.

“That’s what conservatives have to realize — and it’s not just conservatives. It’s people who are somehow feeling like they are part of this movement but they don’t know what to call themselves,” Schlapp said.

Maybe some of these are Trump voters. I want them. They love their country. What’s wrong with the fact that they want to make America great again? I’m for it. I just want to make sure when they do that, they do it in a conservative way,” he added. “And they way you’re going to get them there, is to work with them, and to include them, and not to kick them out. And that’s what I urge these people.
