Oscar Winner Jennifer Lawrence Laughs Off On-Stage Tumble

Entertainment reporters gathered backstage this evening after the Oscar awards ceremony to ask questions of the evening’s winners.  One of the best set of exchanges occurred when Jennifer Lawrence, who won best actress for her role in “Silver Linings Playbook” – and who had earlier tripped up the stairs on her way to accept her award – made her way through rapid-fire questions.

She began the interviews by telling the group of reporters that she’d had a shot before coming out to answer questions.  One asked her about her fall and how it happened.

“How did it happen? Look at my dress,” Lawrence said incredulously, and pointed to her long gown as she laughed. “I tried to walk upstairs in this dress, that’s what happened. I tried to
walk upstairs and stepped on the fabric. They waxed the stairs.”

The follow-up question – “What was going through your head?”

“A bad word that I can’t say. That starts with ‘F.'”  The crowd laughed.

Another reporter pointed out her young age – Lawrence is just 22 years old – and asked, with all her accomplishments at such a young age,  if she was worried that she may have already peaked in her career.

I didn’t catch her exact quote, but Lawrence replied something to the effect that she hadn’t even thought about it that way, and chided the reporter (in good stride) for now making her worry about such a thing.

As much as Lawrence nervously giggled her way through much of the interview session, some in the press managed to come off even sillier than Lawrence herself with such (not very) hard-hitting questions.  Nonetheless, Lawrence laughed it all off with graceful humor.

And as you’d expect, it took little to no time at all before the animated gifs of Lawrence’s fall were circulating across the internet.
