Cruz Endorses Cornyn and Tea Party's Konni Burton in General Election

The day after the March 4th Republican Primary when Senator John Cornyn defeated a crowded field of challengers, Texas’ junior senator Ted Cruz announced his endorsement and support for his senior colleague. Calling for party unity, Senator Cruz called Cornyn, “a friend and a good man.”

This endorsement appeared on Facebook according to an article yesterday in the Houston Chronicle. Following the Facebook announcement, Cruz took to Twitter and sent a message to Cornyn’s top vote getting rival, Congressman Steve Stockman and called on his supporters to get behind “the whole Texas GOP ticket” in the November election.

Cruz is also supporting Texas State Senate candidate Konni Burton in her runoff bid to win the nomination to run for the senate seat being vacated by Sen. Wendy Davis. In late February, Cruz announced one of his few primary endorsements stating, “”I’m proud to endorse my good friend Konni for State Senate. She’s a tireless, unwavering warrior for the conservative cause. Konni is a fighter and will serve the people of Texas well. I urge voters in her district to support her.”

Cruz’ endorsement of Cornyn may well be yet another signal that he will be running for president in 2016.  Cruz called Cornyn a leader who as “earned considerable respect in the Senate.”  Cruz continued, “We have not agreed on everything, but we have agreed on the vast majority of issues. Together, we’re a strong and effective team for Texas.”
