In three separate incidents, officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized $850,000 in cocaine and heroin. The seizures took place over the weekend in the Tucson Sector in southern Arizona.

Customs officer referred a man driving a Dodge truck to a secondary inspection station on Saturday. The 50-year-old driver, whose name and nationality was not disclosed by CBP, was crossing the border at the Nogales West crossing. A narcotics K-9 officer alerted official to the presence of drugs in the truck, information provided to Breitbart Texas by CBP revealed.

A search of the truck revealed packages containing both cocaine and heroin. The stash was hidden in the space behind the driver’s seat. Officers seized the truck, eleven pounds of methamphetamine, and forty-two pounds of heroin. The cocaine was valued at over $32,000. The heroin was estimated to be worth $724,000.

The day before, a man driving a Ford SUV was referred to a secondary inspection station where another K-9 narcotics officer detected the scent of drugs. The 34-year-old driver was arrested after officers removed twenty-one pounds of methamphetamine valued at about $63,000.

Yet another K-9 narcotics-detection officer alerted to the scent of drugs on Sunday. Officers had referred the 28-year-old female driver of a Ford sedan to a secondary inspection station. An inspection revealed over thirteen pounds of methamphetamine being smuggled inside the woman’s car.

The three drivers, who were not identified by CBP in the written statement, were arrested and turned over to CBP’s Homeland Security Investigations. The more than $850,000 in drugs were seized as evidence and the vehicles were impounded for seizure.

K-9 drug detection officers have proven time and time again to be an effective tool in interdicting smuggling attempts at ports of entry across the country.
