Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers, who stopped Ottawa gunman Michael Zehif-Bibeau from extending a shooting rampage that left one Canadian soldier dead on Wednesday, received a lengthy standing ovation as he took his usual spot in the chamber of the Canadian Parliament on Thursday.
In video aired on Fox News, Canadian Parliament members stood in unison and applauded for at least one full minute before the session was called to order.
After opening the session, a moment of silence “for private reflection and meditation” was called for, before Parliament members began singing “O Canada,” the country’s national anthem.
