On Wednesday, the Fox News Channel’s “On the Record” host Greta Van Susteren argued that the news media should show the cartoons run by French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in the wake of the deadly terrorist attacks against the paper.
“We’ve got this situation what happened in Paris. No news organization dares shows the pictures, so the terrorists are in essence sort of winning against the media. I think the media should all band together and stand tall and start showing this stuff rather than running” she stated.
The Hill‘s A.B. Stoddard added “if we back down and change the way that we do things, the way we cover things, the way we talk about things, the way we react to things, then they win. Then they’ve taken our freedom.
The Washington Examiner’s Susan Ferrechio said she was “dismayed” to see outlets who refused to publish the images and blasted the media for engaging in a double standard by refusing to pull images that could be offensive to other religions. Although, all three did say they understood outlets wanting to protect their employees and not wanting to be the only ones to show the images.
