Vice President Joe Biden argued that Democratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton isn’t held to a higher standard due to her gender, and that “this country’s ready for a woman. There’s no problem” in an interview with Mic released on Monday.
Biden began his discussion of the Democratic race by saying that both Clinton and Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) “totally qualified to be president.” He added that Sanders questioning whether Clinton is qualified isn’t sexist.
Biden was then asked if he thought Clinton was held to a higher standard due to her gender. He responded, “No. I don’t think she’s held to a higher standard. And this country’s ready for a woman. There’s no problem. We’re going to be able to elect a woman in this country.”
Biden further stated that while he and President Obama wouldn’t endorse anyone, he would like to see a woman elected president.
