On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” Paul Begala, Senior Adviser to a pro-Clinton superPAC stated that Clinton could use the recent revelations around her emails to rally her base because “when you’re talking to communities of color, who for years have been telling us law enforcement is biased against us, and now here’s one of the most powerful people in the country, looks like she can make a claim that at least the FBI Director has been unfair to her too.”

After citing former DOJ officials, including Bush DOJ official Larry Thompson, who have criticized FBI Director James Comey’s conduct, Begala stated that Clinton should try to go on offense again.

He continued, “She’s got to answer it, right? And she’s been much more proactive about this than she was when Mike’s original story ran. … This time, she was very quick. she even answered questions from the press, her favorite thing to do.”

Begala further said that Clinton wants to “reassure college-educated white people. … But also fire up her base. You know, when you’re talking to communities of color, who for years have been telling us law enforcement is biased against us, and now here’s one of the most powerful people in the country, looks like she can make a claim that at least the FBI Director has been unfair to her too. There’s a way to rally your base about this.” He added, that ultimately, Clinton wants to get off the email story.
