ESPN’s Kellerman: People Can ‘Interpret’ National Anthem as an ‘Opportunity to Make a Political Statement’

Monday, ESPN “First Take” co-host Max Kellerman reacted to white players showing support for their national anthem-protesting black teammates.

Kellerman doubled down on his belief that playing the national anthem at sporting events is “injecting politics,” adding that people in attendance can “easily interpret” the playing of the national anthem as an “opportunity to make a political statement.”

“[I]t is presenting those in attendance, and those who are asked to participate, they can easily interpret it as a political choice or at least an opportunity to make a political statement,” Kellerman argued. “That issue is not going anywhere so long as it is played during the sporting event.”
