VIDEO: 5-Year-Old Riding Ferris Wheel Alone Dangles from Cabin

A terrifying video shows the moment a five-year-old boy riding a Ferris wheel in east China on Monday slipped through the bars of the cabin window, dangling 130 feet above the ground.

The boy was riding in a cabin alone after his mother convinced the ride operator to let him ride alone so she could save 30 yuan on a ride ticket, the Daily Mail reported.

The five-year-old’s neck got caught in between the metal bars of the cabin, keeping him from falling to the ground. Operators slowly rotated the ride until the cabin reached the ground, where his mother waited on the ground with baited breath.

The mother, identified only by her surname Liu, took her son, Xiaoliang, to the amusement park in Taizhou city over a holiday weekend in China. Yuhuan Park opened in 2013, and its Ferris wheel is considered one of Taizhou’s main attractions.

A bystander’s video of the incident showed Xiaoliang’s body rocking side-to-side while he flailed his legs 130 feet in the air after he slipped through the cabin window as the cabin reached the top of the Ferris wheel.

Theme park attendees could be heard screaming and shouting over the video fearing for the child’s safety.

Once the ride reached the ground, the mother rushed over to her son, who was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The boy suffered scratches and bruises to his neck but otherwise remained unharmed.

City officials reportedly shut down the ride while authorities continue to investigate the incident.
