Obama Misspells Aretha Franklin's 'RESPECT' During Women of Soul Jam

President Barack Obama made the kind of public flub Thursday night that would have dominated the news cycle had President George W. Bush said the very same thing.

Obama, taking part in the White House’s Women of Soul concert, announced music legend Aretha Franklin by misspelling the singer’s signature song.

Yes, RESPECT. Or, as Obama calls it, RSPECT.

When Aretha first told us what R-S-P-E-C-T meant to her, she had no idea it would become a rallying cry for African Americans, and women, and then everyone who felt marginalized because of what they looked like or who they loved.  They wanted some respect,” the president said.

The crowd laughed at the gaffe. ABC.com reported the incident straight, but the Associated Press made sure to let readers know those in attendance forgave the presidential blunder.
