Gwyneth Paltrow confessed in her Goop newsletter Thursday that she cheated on her $29 Food Stamp Challenge after only four days.
The 42-year-old actress accepted a challenge from celebrity chef Mario Batali last Thursday in which she was asked to survive on $29 worth of food for the duration of one week.
“This is what $29 gets you at the grocery store–what families on SNAP (i.e., food stamps) have to live on for a week,” she tweeted at the time. “We’re walking in their shoes to see how far we get.”
Approximately five days after Gwyneth pledged to live modestly for seven days, she attended two exclusive Hollywood dinners in the same evening.
Tuesday’s first event was held at the Animal in Los Angeles, with barbecue plates costing around $80 per person.

Many were reportedly shocked to see Gwyneth at the pricey dinners, as they assumed she was living on food stamps that week.
The actress’ rep initially denied his client bowed out of the challenge early, after many began to speculate, insisting she started it last Tuesday, but waited a couple of days to share it with her followers.
“She already finished the challenge last week but only got around to posting the photo of the groceries on [Thursday],” he explained to the New York Post.
The Post then asked if Paltrow had purchased a plate for $85, to which he responded, “That’s really no one’s business.”

As I suspected, we only made it through about four days, when I personally broke and had some chicken and fresh vegetables ( and in full transparency, half a bag of black licorice).
My perspective has been forever altered by how difficult it was to eat wholesome, nutritious food on that budget, even for just a few days-a challenge that 47 million Americans face every day, week, and year.
After trying to complete this challenge (I would give myself a C-), I am even more outraged that there is still not equal pay in the workplace.
After apologizing for going off on a tangent, Gwyneth cited White House Statistics pertaining to the pay gap that exists between men and women in the work force.
“This isn’t just unacceptable, this is reprehensible, and it is incumbent on all of us (hats off to Patricia Arquette) to do something about it,” she declared.
In closing, the Goop guru left a few resources so her readers can address their issues with equal pay.
