George Clooney is set to direct 1950s noir crime drama Suburbicon, which was written by the Coen brothers, and has been in the works for more than a decade, according to reports.

Suburbicon, written by Joel and Ethan Coen, is being referred to as “a noir drama in the vein of the Coens’ breakout film, Blood Simple, but little is known of its specific plot.

“There’s nothing to explain what it is except that it’s a Coen brothers film, Clooney said of the film in 2008. “So it’s insane. I get clubbed to death with a tire iron. It made me laugh.”

Clooney has worked with the Coen brothers on a number of features, including Intolerable Cruelty and O Brother, Where Art Thou?

The Oscar-winner was recently a part of the ensemble for the upcoming Coen brothers-directed film, Hail, Cesar!

Clooney recently produced the upcoming political film Our Brand Is Crisis, starring Sandra Bullock, and directed the 2014 World War 2 film Monuments Men.

Deadline reports deals for Suburbicon are still being made, and that Joel Silver will produce the Sony Tristar Pictures film.
