Morgan Freeman, 78, in Jerusalem shooting “The Story of God,” a National Geographic and Highlight Films documentary exploring faith and theology, has decided he wants to find answers about God, but refused to take a side in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Freeman told Reuters, “I’m primarily interested in why, what is the why of it,” but admitted, “I haven’t found any answers yet. We’re still in production,” as he visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the traditional site of Jesus’ tomb.

Freeman portrayed God in “Bruce Almighty” and “Evan Almighty,” but insisted, “I don’t have a message for anybody. No, we’re just here doing a documentary.”

Freeman visited the Qumran caves in Judea, just missing a flash flood there.

Freeman was part of a video extolling the nuclear deal the Obama administration negotiated with Iran, which was condemned by Israel, calling Congress’ opposition to the deal “sabotage.”

On the other hand, Freeman was honored with the Key of Knowledge Award by Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2013. He accepted the award against objections from Israelis supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (or BDS Movement) who urged him to refuse it.
