Over the weekend, famed actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke celebrated his 90th birthday at The Grove in Los Angeles along with a flash mob that danced and joined him in singing songs from Mary Poppins.
The dancers, dressed as chimney sweeps to honor Van Dyke’s performance as Bert in Mary Poppins, danced to the movie’s including “Step In Time,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Jolly Holiday,” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” according to US Magazine.
At the end of that performance, Van Dyke, who turned 90 on Sunday, joined the group to sing the finale of the movie, “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” as happy birthday signs proliferated.
Van Dyke’s wide, Arlene Silver, organized the event.

In November, as CNN reported, Van Dyke was interviewed by CNN iReport contributor Julie Ellerton, and told her his secret for staying young: eating all the ice cream and candy he can get his hands on, as well as getting lots of exercise and movement. He added, “Don’t do anything that isn’t fun … I may have reached that point in life where I don’t have to do anything that isn’t fun.”
Van Dyke’s storied career has included the legendary Dick Van Dyke Show, co-starring Mary Tyler Moore; numerous other movies including Bye, Bye Birdie, the hilarious The Art of Love, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the TV movie The Morning After; and the long-running TV show Diagnosis Murder, that ran from 1993-2002.
Van Dyke joined the Malibu Playhouse as its creative executive producer in 2014; he performs there with his a capella group Dick Van Dyke and The Vantastix.
