Hugo's Back! Venezuelan Leader Goes Lawn Bowling in Cuba

CARACAS, Venezuela
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has been shown on television for the first time in days with a video clip that shows him chatting with aides and relatives as he undergoes cancer treatments in Cuba.

In the video, Chavez plays a Venezuelan version of lawn bowling while wearing a track suit, and he talks and laughs with aides. He puts an arm around one of his daughters and gives a high-five to his grandson.

The edited footage was shot Monday and was shown on Venezuelan television Tuesday. It is Chavez’s first appearance in video since he traveled to Cuba on April 14 for his latest round of cancer treatment.

Chavez said in a phone call on television on Monday that he plans to be home Thursday.
