Iowa Agriculture Groups Favor King to Vilsack 60-0

In the race for Iowa’s heavily rural, agriculture 4th Congressional District, Democrat’s Christie Vilsack appears to have zero endorsements from agriculture groups while incumbent Republican Steve King has the support of sixty groups.

Iowa is called the “Food Capital of the World,” and this extremely lopsided endorsement race could well be the determining factor that keeps Democrats from dethroning King.

In a recent endorsement ad, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey says:

Iowa’s farmers could ask for no better advocate in Washington than Congressman Steve King. Steve’s smart and understands the modern AG world. He’s a senior member of the AG Committee in Washington – and one of the most outspoken and effective Members. Congressman King has the full backing of the Agriculture industry, winning the support of sixty AG organizations, including The Farm Bureau and Corn Growers.

Candidate Vilsack — the wife of USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack — has responded to the overwhelming number of agricultural group endorses for Rep. King by falsely claiming that groups like The Farm Bureau “typically endorse incumbents; they don’t endorse challengers,” a statement that Farm Bureau Iowa governmental Affairs Committee Member Ron Collins says is flatly false.

She may not have any agricultural groups supporting her, but Mrs. Vilsack does have the endorsement of Planned Parenthood and the SEIU.
