Police report the arrest of a man with “several weapons” in his car in the employee parking lot at Gillette Stadium just before the NHL Winter Classic began in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Matthew Bromson, 48, of North Granby, Connecticut is facing multiple charges, including trespassing, possession of an electric stun gun, disorderly conduct, and three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, Foxborough police said.

Officers were notified of a suspicious man by people who say he was acting in a threatening manner with the weapons. Aside from the stun gun, police found in his car a meat cleaver, a small crossbow, and several swords.

Police also reported that the day before his arrest, Bromson was asked to leave the America’s Best Value Inn, the hotel he was staying at in Foxborough. Police had assisted in his removal at that time.

The suspect was also reportedly involved in a nine-hour standoff with police in Granby, Conn.

The standoff began on September 24 when police tried to serve an arrest warrant on Bromson at his home. Bromson reportedly refused to surrender and barricaded himself in his home. Ultimately, the man surrendered with no violence.

The Boston Bruins had their own troubles that night. The Bruins lost their bout to the Montreal Canadiens in a 5-1 rout.
