Donald Trump has a new prominent fan in Iowa: Senator Chuck Grassley.
The longtime Iowa Republican introduced Trump at a rally today in Pella, Iowa, thrilling fans of the billionaire presidential candidate.
“We have an opportunity once again to make America great again,” Grassley said, according to Politico’s Anna Palmer.
Grassley is running for a seventh term in the Senate in 2016, after beginning his Washington D.C. political career in the House of Representatives in 1975.
He commented on the energy at the rally, urging voters to support the Republican party in the Senate.
“I’m excited to see the big crowds, because of the big energy that comes with it, and we’ve got to keep up this energy that’s shown here today and many other places around Iowa, because that is what is going to take for us to win back the White House in November,” he said.
Grassley is not endorsing Trump, according to reporters in Iowa, but it is remarkable that a long-time Republican senator running for re-election would appear with Trump.
When asked by reporters why he was at the rally, Grassley replied, “I’m just here. I want to beat Hillary.”

According to Palmer, Grassley is going to rally for other 2016 candidates in the race as well. He is scheduled to attend a rally with Sen. Marco Rubio next week.
