Veteran actor Danny DeVito endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders on Sunday at a rally in St. Louis, Missouri.

Standing atop a wooden box so he could reach the microphone, the five feet tall It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star opened for Sanders, telling supporters of the democratic socialist he was feeling “the Bern.”

“I love you guys. I love you because you’re here for Bernie,” he said. “And I’m here because you’re here, and because I feel…”

The crowd then answered, “the Bern!”

DeVito continued, describing Sanders as “a man who speaks the truth, a man whose got the knowledge, a man who’s been there for us since the beginning of his career.”

“I am very, very excited tonight to introduce to you the next president of the United States,” said DeVito, who then compared the candidate to Star Wars character Obi-Wan Kenobi.

“We need you, Obi-Wan,” said 71-year-old DeVito, “Bernie Sanders!”

Earlier Sunday on MSNBC, DeVito equated GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s candidacy to a “joy ride” by the Republican party’s “crazy brother-in-law.” He said:

I  think, you know, the human race, we are who we are. And you know, there are people who are going to be conflicted with certain things. And in terms of the Republican party, I mean, I feel like unfortunately, they have — it’s almost like they had a really nice big car and they loaned it to the crazy brother-in-law who has taken it for a joy ride, and that’s where Donald is. He’s got a lot of people who are riled up, he’s dividing people up.

In January, the actor described the American people as “a bunch of racists” during a conversation about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.

“It’s unfortunate that the entire country is a racist country. So it’s an example of the fact that even though some great people have given some great performances in movies, they weren’t even thought about,” he said. “We are living in a country that discriminates and has certain racist tendencies. So sometimes it manifests itself in stuff like [the Oscar nominations] and it’s illuminated. But just generally speaking, we’re a bunch of racists.”

Despite DeVito’s summarizing the American people as “a bunch of racists” over the lack of minority nominees at the Oscars, the Hollywood insider has consistently passed up opportunities to cast minority performers in his mostly white projects, according to his producer credits.

As Breitbart’s own John Nolte previously noted, “DeVito even co-opted the Civil Rights-era “Freedom Riders” to make a white bread movie called Freedom Writers where the top four actors are white and the patronizing story is about whitey swooping in to save poor minority kids.”

On DeVito’s long-running sitcom It’s Always Sunny, which just wrapped up its 11th season, the actor stars as the financier of a morally bankrupt group of deviant opportunists, in which every major character is white.

DeVito portrays a satirical conservative businessman and gun enthusiast on the show.
